Crafted and set-dressed photorealistic Volcanic terrain.

Procedurally modelled volcano, terrain, and lava sim in Houdini.

Authored shaders and configured assets in UE5 for dynamic real-time effects, enabled fine-tuning and art direction adjustments.

Creating the terrain using different layers in Houdini. Using masked lava regions to spawn points, and exporting as Alembic into UE5 for PCG to emit lava bursts VFX.



Baking shallow water sim vector fields attributes into the normals of the terrain geometry. Lastly, recalculating the vector fields into radian angles, and transferring the float values onto the vertex color R channel.

In the UE5 custom shader, I unpacked the radian angles back into XY vectors to feed as the Flowmap UV, achieving flowmap results without the need for texture maps.

Art-directable real-time effects with mesh distance fields, enabling interactions between scene objects and the terrain lava.


Editor Utility Widget that automatically assigns the RenderTarget of the Top-View of the terrain into Photoshop. Artists can paint terrain regions that will be flattened with WPO. This allows real-time edits on landscaping for buildings with correct occlusion with the terrain.
